Who we are...
Community Harbor is committed to providing a collaborative port to community interest groups, which have traditionally made independent investments in the network infrastructure to meet their individual needs.
The principals of Community Harbor have spent the last two decades building network infrastructure for businesses, school systems, healthcare institutions, municipal governments, county governments and Internet service providers. Rather than continuing to watch as each of these networks are built independently, Community Harbor has chosen to help build a broad base of community support for integrating many of these independent networks into a more cost effective community network infrastructure that can serve as a foundation for community growth.
How?
By collaborating with each other, many of the large network operators within a community can lower the cost of building next-generation networks while providing improved service to more users. This, in turn, allows each organization to lower their cost of delivering their core services to their clients.
Our quest began with research into the state of community networks across the globe. It became obvious, almost immediately, that U.S. communities are well behind their counterparts in many other developed countries, where true fiber based broadband networks are capable of delivering Gigabit Ethernet services to businesses and residential users alike.
In the U.S. today, hundreds of municipalities and rural economic development initiatives are calling for similar initiatives here. Over the next few years Community Harbor is prepared to help those forward-looking communities finance and build their own community gateways to the emerging global economy.
Because we are convinced that this concept is an idea whose time has come, and believe that there is literally no way to prevent these networks from emerging, we have chosen to help communities accomplish as much as possible by sharing the best approaches from communities around the globe. Community Harbor is a facilitator in the next revolution in applied communications.
Our approach includes both short-term and long-term funding mechanisms, capable of meeting the cost of building community alliances, construction of community data centers, building out last mile fiber connectivity to all community users, training programs for network managers and cybersecurity experts and the creation of technical resource centers where community based organizations and local governments can obtain assistance every step along the way toward utilizing the Web to deliver their services to the citizens of the community.
By combining resources to build out a single community Super-Net, each network player significantly reduces their long-term cost of network maintenance, while benefiting from much higher bandwidth, service levels and security. Because this network consolidation is a natural evolutionary step that is increasingly obvious to all network operators today, it is a clear trend that community planners can no longer ignore.
What will emerge is the foundation for a whole new economy, with simple rules that, still resemble the rules that businesses and governments use today, but which introduce a full order-of-magnitude more efficiency into business and personal interaction. The implications of this revolution are clear for individuals and organizations that want to prosper within this new economy: Adapt or fail.
Just as the development of the Internet, as we know it today, involved a revolution driven by grassroots individuals in collaboration with others across the globe, so too will this revolution involve the will of individuals with a shared vision. This vision has already begun to spread with inertia that will soon reach awakening communities across the country. Welcome to the new revolution, it will be televised on the Internet.
Welcome to the new revolution, it will be televised in High Definition, on the Internet!
